Very much the potential whipping boys of Group A, although
they will be the first to point out that they beat Ghana in
Burkina Faso two years ago and were the cause of the Black
stars early exit. But when you consider that they qualified
for the finals despite not winning a single game last year –
both in the Nations Cup qualifiers and several friendly
warm-up encounters – then the task might seem beyond their
capabilities. Their one star player is Bachirou Salou, among
the leading goalscorers in the German Bundesliga this season,
but he has refused to play since the last Nations cup finals
and coach Gottlieb Goeller will have to use all his powers of
persuasion to get the burly striker back.
