GHANA

|
Local conditions make co-hosts Ghana favourites, but they
also have several other credible reasons to be considered
highly fancied at the tournament. The Black Stars have a long
tradition of success but have not been on the winners podium
since 1982, when Abedi Pele was a 17-year-old and the final
was played on an artificial surface in Libya. However, a new
generation of talent is emerging, many of who are the products
of the successful Ghanaian youth and junior sides that have
dominated world football. Players to watch include captain
Sammy Kuffour of Bayern Munich and Abedi Pele's younger
brother Kwame Ayew of Sporting Lisbon.
